Shopify Fee Calculator

Shopify charges differently from Etsy. Instead of a per-sale fee stack, you pay a flat monthly plan plus a percentage on each sale for payment processing. That structure changes how you think about cost: at zero sales your monthly bill is the plan price; at high volume, the per-sale percentage shrinks relative to the plan, and the math flips toward Shopify being cheaper.

Most sellers will use Shopify Payments, which charges 2.9% + $0.30 on the Basic plan and lower rates on higher tiers. Third-party gateways add another 2% on Basic, dropping to 0.2% on Plus, so the choice between Shopify Payments and an external processor is often the largest single line item in your cost.

Enter your order total and your plan, and this calculator returns what you keep per sale — monthly plan separately, so you can decide whether the per-sale math justifies the subscription, not just whether the rate looks attractive in isolation.

FAQ

What fees does Shopify charge?

A monthly plan ($29–$299/mo billed annually, $39–$399/mo monthly) plus payment processing through Shopify Payments (2.9%, 2.6% or 2.4% + $0.30 depending on plan). Third-party gateways add an extra 2%/1%/0.6%/0.2%.

Does Shopify charge a transaction fee?

Shopify Payments has no platform transaction fee. If you use a third-party gateway, Shopify charges an additional 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced, or 0.2% on Plus.

Is the monthly fee included in the per-sale calculation?

No. This calculator shows per-sale fees separately from the monthly plan so you can decide whether the subscription is justified by your volume. Divide the monthly plan by monthly orders to get the per-order share.

Why do card rates vary by plan?

Higher-tier plans get lower card rates (Basic 2.9%, Grow 2.6%, Advanced 2.4%). At high volume the rate difference outweighs the higher monthly plan; at low volume it usually doesn't.
