Shopify Pricing Calculator

Pricing on Shopify is a margin problem, not a percentage problem. The 2.9% card rate looks small until you add the $0.30 fixed fee and amortize the monthly plan, especially on lower-priced orders where the fixed fee is a meaningful share of the sale.

The classic pricing mistake is to look at the rate card alone and conclude Shopify is "2.9% + $0.30" — then price a $12 product at $13 and wonder why the margin is thin. At $13 the card fee is about $0.68 (5.2% effective), the plan share on Basic at 10 orders a month is $3.90 per order, and you are underwater before you ship anything.

Use this calculator to enter your order total, plan and current cost structure, then judge whether the price covers your target margin. The result tells you what you actually keep, not what your competitor is charging.

FAQ

How should I price products on Shopify?

Start from a target margin (the share of the order you want to keep after fees and cost of goods), then work backward to the price. This calculator shows the fees you need to cover; subtract them and your COGS from your target to find the price.

How does the plan tier affect target price?

Higher-tier plans charge lower card rates (2.6% on Grow, 2.4% on Advanced vs 2.9% on Basic), but the monthly plan is higher. At low volume Basic is cheaper; at high volume the lower rate on Grow or Advanced wins. Run your expected volume through to find your break-even.

Should I include shipping in the price?

If you offer free shipping, yes — the carrier cost comes out of the price. If you charge shipping separately, Shopify does not add a platform fee on shipping itself (unlike Etsy), but the customer pays it on top.

What is a good target margin on Shopify?

A common target is 30%+ after fees and before COGS, or 50%+ after both. The exact number depends on your category, repeat-customer rate and ad spend.
