Shopify Profit Calculator

Shopify profit per sale is not the same as gross order total minus a single percentage. Three layers stack: the card processing percentage plus a fixed $0.30, any third-party gateway surcharge if you do not use Shopify Payments, and the monthly plan amortized across your order volume. Each layer is a separate decision, and they do not always point the same direction.

The most common mistake is ignoring the monthly plan at low volume. A $39/mo Basic plan on 10 orders a month adds $3.90 per order before you even pay for processing — more than the card rate on a $50 order. Run your realistic monthly order count through this calculator to see whether the plan price is justified, not just what the rate card says.

Enter your order total and plan, and this calculator returns per-sale fees and net profit per order, with the monthly plan listed separately so you can multiply it by your order volume for a true monthly net.

FAQ

How do I calculate profit on Shopify?

Subtract card processing (and third-party gateway fees if applicable) from your order total, then subtract your share of the monthly plan. This calculator shows per-sale fees; divide the monthly plan by your monthly orders to amortize it.

Should I include the monthly plan in per-sale profit?

Yes if you want a true per-order net. No if you want to see whether the per-sale math alone justifies opening the shop. This calculator shows both — per-sale fees separately, monthly plan separately.

What is a healthy Shopify profit margin?

After payment processing and the amortized plan, a healthy target is 30%+ on the order total. Lower than that and small cost increases (refunds, chargebacks, shipping subsidies) eat the cushion quickly.

Why is my profit different from my sale price minus 2.9%?

Card processing has a fixed component too: $0.30 per transaction. On a $10 order, that fixed fee is a 3% effective rate on top of the 2.9%, so the all-in cost is 5.9% before the plan share.
